3 Habits To Add To Your Morning Routine
When the sun rises, and your alarm clock goes off, the first thing that most people think is, “five more minutes, PLEASE!” Especially if you value your sleep time as I do, the alarm clock can be your worst enemy. To ease the pain of getting out of your “oh so comfortable” bed, here are 3 habits you can add to your morning routine.
1. Throw away the alarm clock.
An abrupt start to your morning can put anyone in a terrible mood. The way you start off your day will set the mood for the rest of your day. Some people can wake up around the same time every morning without any assistance from an alarm clock. But others like me will stay in bed to the last possible second. Sooooo……What do you use instead of an alarm clock. Wake up with natural light. Invest in curtains that block out ALL light and leaves your room in complete darkness in the absence of a artificial light source. Set the time you want to get up and let the curtains do the rest. Instead of hearing an annoying noise go off in the morning that haunts your for the rest of your day, the the natural light from the sun will gracefully wake you up like the angel you are.
2. Have a cool bottle of water next to your bedside.
As soon as you open your eyes and pull your covers from over your head, what is the next thing you reach for? Most people’s answer is their phone and guess what? It’s also the incorrect answer…at least in my opinion. The first thing that you should reach for is a cool glass or bottle of water. Drinking water as soon as you get up is like a second signal to your body to get up and sends the message to your internal systems that the day has begun. So drop the phone and drink some water
3. Don’t touch the phone for at least an hour
The first hour of your day should be focused on you, not where Emily and her new boyfriend went last night. This is your time to pray, meditate, or whatever it is that stirs that inner peace within yourself. No one is going to care for you the way that you are, and your mental health is more important than anything else. Sit down and list at least three goals that you plan on accomplishing for that day. That way at the end of the day, you can see that you got something down and feel like you were at least some what productive.
