The Glow Up: A Diary Series – Luxurious Shower Routine

Showering is such a basic task that we (hopefully) perform on a daily basis. We turn the shower on, get the water warm enough, and step in. Soap and loofah in hand, we get the job done. Turn the water off, step out, dry off, and continue on with getting dressed. But what if we turned our basic shower routine into something more lavish or turn it into a luxurious experience, a miniature spa. I mean we have to do it anyway, so why not enjoy it and pamper ourselves? So this is what I decided to do. Instead of unconsciously going through the steps of showering, I decided to mentally be there and enjoy the moment.

Here’s my official Luxurious Shower Routine:

Before doing anything, music is a must have. I love creating playlist to fit a certain mood and listening to it whenever I am experiencing that certain mood.  My shower playlist is a mix of peaceful, upbeat songs and songs. So I turn on the playlist and start getting everything ready. I layout all of the products that I am going to use: My washcloth, bar soap, loofah, body wash, body scrub, and towel.  When setting the temperature of the shower, I make sure that it’s perfect for me. Not to hot, but not freezing is how I like it. After the water is warm enough I step in. The first thing that I do is just stand there for a good minute with my eyes closed and let the water run over my face. During this minute, I try to relax and clear my head of everything. No thinking of what I have to do that day or any problems that I am currently dealing with. Just the sound of the water and my music softly playing in the background. This is one of my meditation sessions that I have throughout the day. I try to meditate multiple times throughout the day, but that doesn’t always happen due to time and life. So this is my one, solid time scooped out of the day just for meditating. After this minute is up, I begin the cleansing process. With the washcloth and bar soap, I lather the soap and do a basic cleaning. Then with the loofah, I use my body wash and exfoliate my skin. After that I use the body scrub to get a deep exfoliation. My particular body scrub has a sweet fragrance that lingers throughout the entire day. This exfoliation occurs while the water is off and my skin is still wet. Afterwards, I rinse it off and begin to dry off. Throughout my entire shower, I envision washing off anxiety, stress, and any other unpleasant thought that might pop up. This is the end of the showering process, but not the end of my routine. After ridding of any excess water on my skin, I moisturize. This is a step that a lot of people skip or pay little attention to. This is one of the most important steps and a must. Properly moisturizing your skin when leave your skin soft, smooth, and healthy. The products that I use to moisturize are: Lotion (duh), baby oil, and a body gel oil. My entire body gets covered in these products. I start off with the lotion and baby oil. I mix these two together in my hand and massage it into my skin in circular motion, which helps my blood circulating and causes your skin to come alive and naturally glow. This mixture of lotion and baby oil leaves your skin baby soft and glowing. Afterwards, I use the body gel oil as a extra glow. I focus this product on mainly my legs, arms, and upper chest and shoulder area. I also make sure that my hands and feet get special attention because this parts of our body get used the most. After this, I put on either my silk robe or a loose dress to walk around. This is the end of my Luxurious Shower Routine. Not once in this section did I mention my face instead of when I said, “The first thing that I do is just stand there for a good minute with my eyes closed and let the water run over my face”, a few sentences ago. This is because my shower routine and face cleansing routine are separate. I’ll get to that next. Here is a summary list of the steps that I take in my shower routine:

  1. Wash in Vanilla Dove Bar Soap with washcloth.
  2. Use loofah with Vanilla body wash
  3. **Use Vanilla body scrub
  4. Dry off using clean towel
  5. Lotion down in Bare Vanilla Lotion mixed w/ baby oil
  6. Use Body Gel Oil for extra glow
  7. Put clothes on

**The body scrub is something that I use every other day or on the days that I have a few extra minutes. ***
